US stocks declined on Friday as selling pressure broadened beyond the AI trade, while oil prices rose. The 10-year Treasury (^TNX) yield gained, though it held below the 5% threshold.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) fell 1.2%, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) dropped 0.4%. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) fell below the flatline after a steep decline in Tech (XLK) on Thursday.

The AI trade attempted a rebound following concerns over rising financing costs and a potential slowdown in capex, which weighed on already-battered neocloud stocks like CoreWeave (CRWV). Shares of AI chip giants Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD (AMD) edged higher, along with other infrastructure plays, after Thursday’s sell-off.
Shares of this week’s earnings headliners, SpaceX (SPCX), Tesla (TSLA), and Meta (META), stabilized in Friday trading after declining in the previous session.
Not all of tech was struggling on Friday, though. Cybersecurity stocks, including SailPoint (SAIL), Cloudflare (NET), and Palo Alto Networks (PANW), each rose more than 5%.
Oil prices remained near a five-month high amid fears of escalating tensions in the Middle East, with Brent crude (BZ=F) futures for December delivery closing just north of $116 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude (CL=F) climbed above $103 per barrel.
The prospect of higher energy costs weighed on transportation stocks, with United (UAL), Delta (DAL), and American (AAL) all falling more than 4%.

Meta stock pares losses following yesterday’s 7% decline
Yahoo Finance’s Daniel Howley reports:
Meta (META) stock pared losses in premarket action Friday, following a dismal Thursday trading session. Shares of the social media giant plunged 7%, despite reporting better-than-anticipated Q3 revenue on Wednesday as AI bubble fears reemerged across Wall Street.
Investors have been pulling back on semiconductor and other AI stocks across the board on questions about whether massive investments in AI data centers will pay off in the long run.
Meta raised the lower end of its capital expenditure estimates to between $135 billion and $145 billion from $130 billion and $145 billion. The company also has $825 billion in various spending commitments related to cloud capacity arrangements, energy service agreements, and consumer hardware products.

Meanwhile, oil prices rose early Friday as momentum builds around renewed tensions in the Middle East conflict.
