Trump spars with reporter while defending controversial Ramaswamy ad featuring Dem’s mother

Amid a heated Ohio gubernatorial contest, President Donald Trump on Friday continued staunchly standing behind the controversial ad by GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign that features Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother urging voters to reject her daughter.

“A mother is saying, don’t put my daughter there because she’s a terrible person and she’s a liar. Why shouldn’t somebody use that?” Trump said.

[–>

“But do the sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir?” a reporter, who identified herself as working for NBC, pressed.

As the reporter repeatedly pressed the issue, Trump sniped “Quiet.”

“You’re a horrible little reporter, aren’t you?” Trump said.

[–>

“If I had that ad, I should be so lucky to have an ad like that. Why wouldn’t you listen to a mother that says that? Why?” Trump asked, referring to the reporter as “miss NBC.”

The reporter noted that the mother remained with the “stepfather who was charged with raping his stepdaughter in 1978, sir.”

“I don’t know anything about stepfathers from many, many years ago. I know that recently a mother got on television and said that her daughter should not be governor of Ohio,” Trump said.

Ramaswamy, who is running against Democratic candidate Amy Acton in the Buckeye State’s gubernatorial race, has faced criticism for a campaign ad featuring his opponent’s estranged mother calling her daughter “a liar” who voters should reject.

[–>

“I love my daughter. But when I saw her lying about her opponent — it’s not easy for a mother to say this — but Amy has a serious problem. She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life. My daughter needs help. And she can’t help you if she needs help herself,” Donna Arthur said in the video. “Don’t vote for people who lie. Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself. It will only get worse.”

Acton issued a lengthy Facebook post addressing the video.

“Growing up in Youngstown, my brother Phil and I endured abuse, hunger, and neglect — even spending one winter homeless living in a tent. We were often kept in a dark basement, were frequent-fliers with child protective services, and lived in fear of our birth mother’s violent and erratic temper. Between the ages of 10 and 12, I was sexually abused by her husband, while my birth mother did nothing to protect me. I’ve always known that she was deeply sick and unwell, and it’s sad to see Vivek Ramaswamy exploit her all for his own political gain,” part of Acton’s Tuesday post stated.

“Eventually, I confided in my father and stepmother, and we were removed from that situation. My birth mother’s husband was arrested, charged with rape, and indicted by a grand jury. At 12 years old, I testified in court. I haven’t seen my birth mother since that day in 1978. She and her husband fled the state and he was declared a fugitive,” the candidate noted.
